My Fed Ex
Caden Zips, Senior and Advanced Print Show, Spring 2024
Featured in the Visual Arts Center at the University of Texas at Austin, and Icosa Gallery, this piece is a collection of trace and stencil monotypes. Small, torn pieces add tiny details to this story, starting from the bottom left to the top right, ultimately framing the intense climax: the large, colorful middle print. The creation and assemblage of this piece is meant to pay homage to the methods of comic making, as the sketches, scribbles, intense values, and the less-than-professional installation (via T-Pins) all expose the deep, yet surface-level train of thought that takes place during comic development. Hard to read for some, clear as day for one, this is the story of a couple who is split up by the laws of… the law. Attempt to read as a man whose passion lies in “Political-Commentary Pottery”, and a woman who must serve her “country” as a brutal military general, must reconcile with the end of the relationship, in whatever ways their hearts choose.
